ALASKAN BARRACUDA. Gov. Sarah Palin sits pretty in Anchorage with the fur and hide of a grizzly bear that her own father earlier shot and killed.

Bloggers see Palin as hunter,
killer of grizzly bears, wolves

THE Grizzly Bay blog lists the Top 11 things one must know about Republican Party presumptive presidential nominee Arizona Sen. John McCain’s choice as running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin:

1) She is presently under investigation in Alaska for abuse of power;

2) She strongly supports big oil (her husband works for oil company BP);

3) She stands for everything that New York Sen. Hillary Clinton has stood against;

4) She is adamantly opposed to reproductive rights for women;

5) She has no federal or international experience, because prior to being governor (for less than two years), she was only the mayor of a small town and the town beauty queen;

6) She believes global warming is a farce and is opposed to listing the polar bear as an endangered species;

7) She believes creationism must be taught in public schools;

8 ) She supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and anywhere else big oil wants;

9) She supports Pebble Mine which will destroy the richest salmon run in the world;

10) She supports aerial shooting of bears and wolves in Alaska; and

11) She is pro-war like McCain, as well as President George W. Bush and the man she wishes to replace as Vice President, the Iraq war architect Dick Cheney.

Worse for the environment than even Bush and McCain her patron, Palin supports the development of Pebble Mine, reportedly the largest open pit mine in North America, the Grizzly Bay blog says.

It also says Pebble Mine has jeopardized the entire Bristol bay ecosystem which contains the largest sockeye salmon run in the world, adding that the mine would pollute an unprecidented number or rivers, lakes, and bays.

Further, the blog reveals that although Gov. Palin has claimed that Pebble will create jobs for Alaskans, the mine will instead effectively destroy the commercial and sport fishing industry in Bristol Bay, while the mine’s potential for pollution will make the Exxon Valdez oil spill look like a tiny grease stain.

It says Palin has sued the federal government over listing polar bears as a threatened species, because it can restrict the oil industry that she supports, adding this is the same reason she wants to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil drilling.

Bloggers are also pretty shocked to hear that McCain has chosen Palin as his running mate.  Given the fact that she is being investigated for abuse of power, Palin is supposed to be out of the running, but obviously McCain is trying to court the women’s vote.

According to bloggers, Palin is as bad for women’s rights as Bush and McCain combined, adding she is an ultra-conservative politician dedicated to destroying the Alaskan ecosystem in the name of oil exploration and outdated wildlife management policy.  They say Palin has no federal or international experience.

Moreover, they say Palin supports the aerial hunting of wolves and bears, as they claim that she even spent $400,000 of Alaskan state funds to finance a media campaign trying and convincing Alaskans to support aerial shooting – even though Alaskans have voted against it, twice.

The Barracuda Babe of Alaska
aims to be the next VP Cheney

MANILA – A vote for the Arizonan phoenix John McCain, the Republican Party long-shot to the United States presidency, will just be a push for continuation of the eight years of failed George W. Bush policies.

And a vote for the Alaskan barracuda Sarah Palin, the Grand Old Party’s desperate choice for the U.S. vice presidency, will just be another push for continuation of the same eight years of equally failed Dick Cheney policies.

This was the dual sentiment of the OBAMANOS: Filipinos for Obama Movement and its affiliates in the Philippines-America for Obama or Phil-Ams for Bam movement based in the island region of Mindanao and the Philippine national capital region of Metro Manila.

The Filipinos for Obama Movement views Palin not just as a neophyte governor of the ice-cold state of Alaska, but as a former mayor of a backwater town whose human constituents are even less than the number of northern polar animals as reindeer, moose, and caribou – and also grizzly bears and wolves which she herself hunts and kills as a gun-toting, gun-loving hunter-killer and death penalty advocate.

The Philippine movement is still confident that Barack Obama, junior senator from Illinois, will become the next President of the U.S. and his running mate Joe Biden, senior senator from Delaware, will himself become the next U.S. Vice President through the winning Democratic Party ticket.

Meet the Barracuda: An anti-abortion,
pro-death penalty, gun-lover governor

SHE hunts. She fishes. She was voted Miss Congeniality after winning a beauty pageant in her small town in Alaska. She is a mother of five and a churchgoer who says her favourite meal is moose stew.

But the quality that may serve Sarah Palin best after being chosen by John McCain as his running mate yesterday may be the competitiveness and determination to win that earned her the name Sarah Barracuda for her sharp elbows as high school basketball player.

Palin, 44, the first female governor of Alaska and the first woman on a Republican presidential ticket, has a life story that could make a conservative Republican swoon. But until yesterday even Palin thought it far-fetched that she could be a figure on a national stage.

In an interview last month, she even let slip that she did not think the job of vice-president was very meaningful. “As for that VP talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day,” she told CNBC. “I’m used to being very productive and working real hard in an administration.”

McCain is hoping his selection will help win over disaffected supporters of Hillary Clinton who might rally towards a woman candidate, and that Palin’s reputation as an anti-corruption crusader could banish the aura of the past that hangs over his candidacy.

Born in Idaho, Palin moved to Alaska as a child. She married her high school sweetheart, Todd Palin, who works on the oilfields and is a champion snowmobile racer. The couple live on a lake, own a float plane, and have raised five children. Their eldest son is in the army and is about to deploy to Iraq, while their youngest son is six months old and was born with Down’s syndrome.

She is a fierce opponent of abortion and same-sex marriage. She supports the death penalty and the teaching of creationism in schools. Palin is an enthusiast for the outdoors and a gun owner, and is opposed to environmental restrictions on drilling in Alaska.

While virtually unknown to the average American before yesterday, Palin has been a rising star in political circles since 2006. She challenged the incumbent Republican governor, who was then under the shadow of a corruption scandal, in the state primary, and went on to beat her Democratic opponent – a rare bright light for Republicans in 2006 who were losing across the map.

As governor, she has demonstrated a populist flair. She sold the official governor’s plane and took commercial flights. She drives to work in the family Volkswagen Jetta. In an attempt to soften the burden on Alaskans of high petrol prices, she proposed giving every household a $100 energy debit card. Palin has also tried to cut government spending, shutting down a bridge project that would have cost $400 million.

But she has a long list of political enemies. She is also under investigation into whether she intervened to sack a state trooper who was involved in a divorce and custody battle with her sister. Palin is alleged to have transferred the commissioner of public safety, Walter Monegan, to a job at the state alcohol board last month, after he refused to sack the police official.
